With all the bad that comes out of social media, there are good things that come from it too. This story starts off with a random message from one of my former student workers, Jordan. It was just part of her insta story one day, asking if anyone could help her finish her Auburn Bucket List. She asked, “Does anyone know how I can get up to the Samford Clock Tower for my birthday?” I happen to be sitting in my living room across from Rob. Due to Rob’s job, he knows a lot of people on campus. I asked…

Last week was our coldest week so far this season. We survived and are thankful for a heated house! PICS & GOINGS ON I finished off this upgrade, I guess you could call it. These are Boy Scout popcorn tins that I have around the house that we use for little trashcans. I didn’t like the design on this one, so I painted it and put a ribbon with a chalkboard heart on it. We don’t really use the word rubbish around here, but I liked that word more than trash or garbage. Tuesday was our coldest day yet. Lows…

I wasn’t sure what call this post, because it wasn’t technically a commencement for Drew. However, its as a close as we’re gonna get to a ceremony. He got all dressed up (for pics mainly) and wore his cap and gown. We got to go into the stadium and he got his name up on the big screen in Jordan Hare stadium, which does not happen during a normal commencement. Watch as he soaks it all in and gets to the center where they call his name. No one to greet him or give him a folder with the Auburn…

I wanted to write a quick post and share some pics of Drew’s girlfriend, Caitlyn’s graduation weekend. The week before graduation Caitlyn and I went out and ended up doing 2 rounds of grad photos. Here’s a few of my favs… For Caitlyn’s party our friends were nice enough to let her have it at their lake house. We got there early so we could start making the noodles. When we offered to help her with food for the party, Rob asked her if she could have any food she wanted what would it be. She of course answered with…

As an Auburn alumnus, employee, and now parent, this is a beautiful sight. Most people look at this with disgust seeing a mess or even vandalism. Because I love Auburn, this is a beautiful sight. I don’t see defacing of property. I see victory. I don’t see violence or harm. I see celebration as Auburn fans, family, and friends coming together after a win. I don’t see vandalism. I see tradition that dates back to the late 1960’s. With this particular rolling after our win over Alabama, our state rivals, I see an opportunity to play for the SEC championship…

Dynamics at work have changed a bit, because the addition that has been under construction since December 2015 is now finished and open. This $35 million addition adds 26 state of the art classrooms, 2 large lecture halls, study rooms, and open study spaces that span 69,000 square feet in 3 stories. This mecca is called Mell Classroom Building @ RBD Library. With the completion of the Mell Classroom Building at RBD Library, the transformation of the workplace dynamic is not only evident within the walls but extends to the very structure that houses these state-of-the-art facilities. Considering environmental sustainability,…

If you’re planning to come to Auburn, Alabama, there are some really cool things to do without even leaving the area. Here’s my Auburn Alabama Bucket List of a few of the best things to do while you’re on the Plains. Roll Toomer’s Corner after an Auburn University win. Yes, we toilet paper 2 trees on the corner of campus after out Tigers win a sporting event. Now if you’re here during football season that of course is when you’ll see the biggest rollings, but folks often head to downtown for other sports when our Tigers put a W on…

As I mentioned before Drew is in AU Cappella which is Auburn University’s all male acapella singing group. They do a concert every semester for the community as as well as singing for special events like the Brave’s games and other cool events. So last week was their Fall concert and Drew sang a solo to Michael Buble’s Just Haven’t Met You Yet. He did a lovely job and I was just so frickin’ proud of him and how confident he was during the entire concert. Here’s the AU Cappella Video of Drew singing his solo: Rob videoed the entire…

Now that the university is closed for Christmas break, construction on RBD to add the new Mell Commons Building will begin over the holidays. The staff of the library took a picture today infront of our building since it will never look like this again. Photo above by Jayson Hill – AUL libraries (Flickr) I also got some shots to remember what it looked like from different angles. See all the pics I took here. To see progress on the new building see this link: Mell Commons

It’s the time of year when seniors in high school apply for college. Drew applied at the end of the September and has been anxiously logging in everyday to check his application status. Over the last month or 2 many of Drew’s friends have been getting accepted. One of our friends, who’s a professor at Auburn, warned us based on Drew’s scores, he probably wouldn’t get accepted till after the New Year. Well, yesterday Drew was home sick and he got a text from one of his good friends, JR, saying he had logged in on his phone (at school)…

There are many sights and sounds that go with start of Fall. One of my favorite things about Fall is football and the sounds of the marching bands. At the end of the summer around here many times you step outside and you hear the tapping of the snares and the whistle of piccolos. My heart just jumps for joy. Here in town every year right before school starts one of the local high school hosts a gathering of bands from surrounding areas called Band-O-Rama. The Auburn University band comes too, which is very exciting and gets us all pumped…

Rob got an award at work. Yeah, he’s been at this job less than a year and is already getting recognized. So proud of him! He got a certificate, the shirt he’s wearing in the picture, and a day off! Below is a picture of Rob, his boss, and his other coworker who got the award.

Last Wednesday, I got up as normal, grabbed my phone, and headed down stairs to have my Bible time and eat my cereal before getting the kids up in 30 minutes. I noticed I had a text, so I opened it up to see a text from AU ALERT:

But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me. ~Micah 7:7 > So for those of you who follow Rob on Facebook, you’ve heard the good news. Rob has accepted a new job at Auburn University. We are just so elated at this wonderful opportunity. He will be working in the Facilities Management in the Information Systems Department. Over the past 5 years, we’ve had so many ups and downs (more downs) with my job situation and my eventual career change. As much as I love and…

This past cub scout pack meeting was very exciting, probably more for the adults than the kids, in that we realized what opportunity these kids were getting. Getting to hang out in the workout place of the Auburn University Gymnastics Team!

I woke up Tuesday morning feeling sick to my stomach. Feeling as if I was missing the funeral for my best friend. That yearning in my heart that told me, “Let me see them one more time.” It’s terrible, gut-wrenching. Knots form as I try not to ponder the thought that the Toomer’s Oaks will start to be trimmed away little by little until they take that chainsaw one last time and slice it through the bottom of that thick, thick trunk and let it plummet to the ground. Lifeless, haggard…dead. I watched (on live webcam) all morning as they…

Although, we didn’t go to the rolling of Toomer’s Corner after A-day, I raced over there Sunday night just as the clean up crews got there to start cleaning up. Here’s a few shots: I’ve written a bit about the trees already. I’m not sure any of my words have or could ever truly convey how special they really are to me and the rest of the Auburn Family. To most people this looks like a big mess, to the Auburn family this is beautiful! Here’s a aerial shot of the crowd during the final rolling. Tell me people don’t…

These trees have stood the test of time. Over a hundred years ago no one knew how beloved these trees would be. How they would be the center of countless celebrations after Auburn University victories. How they would be the focal point of a tradition that is a favorite among Auburn students, fans, and alums. But you see these trees are now dead by the hands of sick fan from our rival school. The trees have been dying since November 2010. We found out about the poisoning in February of the next year. Many, including me, cried bitter tears that…

Saturday was Scout Day at Auburn University’s football game, which means all Scouts and Scout leaders get in free! It was an 11:20 kick off which made for another early day. Rob is in charge of giving out tickets for the Boy Scouts, so we had to be on campus at 9am. We took the shuttle over and while we were waiting for our stuff to be set up, my friend, MJ, and I decided to go over to the Alumni tent. While I was there, I had someone come up and asked if I was “Magnolia Mom,” which was…

Today was Auburn’s Vet School Open House. It’s a free event for families to come see what goes on at the vet school, also used a recruiting tool for potential veterinary majors. We always enjoy it and learn a lot too! Here’s a few pics: Pony…oh how cute! Petting the bird Bomb dog demonstration I believe this is a Newfoundland watching the bomb dog demonstration. The last one we went to was in 2009, see pics of it here.
