    Memories of the Month {3.2013}

    This month I was happy about: Drew making Honor’s Band for next year. This month I was sad about: the Elton John concert cancelled 2 hours before the concert. Something I accomplished this month was: getting my bedroom clean and organized. Something new I did was: get an anti-biotic shot. Don’t think I’ve ever had one of those before. This year I’m going to rate the books & movies. Here’s my rating system: ♥ ♥ = Love it! A must read/see! ♥ = Really good! Highly recommend. ✓ ✓ = Good, not great ✓ = Not much to talk about…

    Duly Earned Award

    Last week, Rob was honored to be given a much deserved “District Award of Merit” for all his hard work in scouts over all. Very proud of him! I was so excited to find out he won it, because I told him “Now you can resign all your district positions! Right?” Let’s face it. My hubs is a volunteer-a-holic!

    Wait…I know that kid!

    A punch in the gut. That’s how I felt when I saw a headline on the front page of our local newspaper a couple weeks ago. I saw the picture. I saw the name. At first, it didn’t hit me and then it did. I know that kid! I taught that kid! And now…he’s just been indicted by the grand jury for capital murder and assault charges in connection with the deaths of two people last year. This is a kid who gave me so much trouble, when his mom forced him to come to school, which was only a…

    because I don’t want to forget….

    On the way to take Alex from school to Rob’s work, he said, “Today I accidentally had a great example of cause and effect.” The cause was I spilled some chocolate milk on me. The effect was I smelled like sour milk. And another effect from it was that the janitor had to come mop up the floor.”

    Memories of the Month {2.2013}

    Where is this year going?!? Really? How are we done with February already? So yah, I’m a little late posting this… This month I was happy about: because I have felt such a closeness to God lately…need to write about this. This month I was sad furious about: having people say they’re going to help with something, back out on me, and just leave me to do it without help. Something I accomplished this month was: eating healthier and going to the gym more regularly. Something new I did was: learned to use Google Fonts with a plugin to change…

    Library Story #7

    Turkey Baaaster Ok, I have a work story for ya. It’s actually from back in January, but my student just reminded me about it. One of my student workers, Kelsey, was starting to read her textbook for her medical ethics class. She was in the introduction part of the book, where it referred to something about the unconventional use of the good ole turkey baster. Well, Kelsey had silently reread the sentence several times trying to make sense of the idea that the author was trying to convey. So she turns around and is like, “Ms. Lysha, what is a…

    Polar Plunge

    Today was another busy day. It started off with Rob and I going to a friend’s house for the Polar Plunge, which was a fundraiser for Special Olympics. Rob and I were not plungers. We were just sponsors, ie: observers. 🙂 Here’s a few pics from the event: You can see all my pics from the Polar Plunge here.

    Library Story #6

    The other night, it was just before midnight, right before I was to get off work when one of my off duty student workers, B, came to make me aware that her and a couple of her friends were in the back of our department studying. She also informed me that one of her friends, KK, took a bite of oatmeal that she had purchased from the coffee shop upstairs. Not a 10 seconds after she swallowed it, she started showing signs of an allergic reaction. B said KK’s throat was closing and that she had injected her epi-pen but…

    January’s End of the Month Summary {2013}

    This month I was happy about: getting to spend time with friends. This month I was sad worried sick about: my top teeth that are having issues because I grind and clinch when I sleep. Something I accomplished this month was: surviving. Something new I did was: go see an oral surgeon to make sure there was not a cyst on my top gums. The verdict was no, but he recommended I get my wisdom teeth out sometime soon. Luckily, I only have top ones! I’m going to wait and see what pans out with my initial issue mentioned above.…

    How is it?

    …That I now have a 15 year old? I mean really! It blows my mind. Yesterday was Drew’s birthday. We celebrated by going to Shogun, where we feasted on Japanese food and he opened his presents. He got an Alabama Driver’s Manual, tickets to Elton John with his Dad in March, and a weight bench and weights. My letter to Drew, Although, we butt-heads more often than not, I hope you know that I love you dearly. I am happy to call you my son. When I tell you I’m proud of you, I mean it whole-heartedly. Even though, Dad…

    Memories of the Month {12.2012}

    This is my last monthly summary for the year! I’m really glad I did this this year. It will be great to look back years from now and have a quick ‘summary’ of each month. I plan to keep doing it in 2013. I’m wondering what I else I should ask myself each month. Is there anything useful that could be added? Any suggestions? This month I was happy about: enjoying the holiday season. This month I was sad about: nada. Somethings I accomplished this month were: hitting a problem head on and being able to resolve it even though…

    See Ya, 2012!

    What did you do in 2012 that you’d never done before? Ziplined through the jungle of Honduras Did you keep your new years’ resolutions and will you make more for next year? I don’t think I really had any besides the same ones I always want to do. Did anyone close to you give birth? My sis-in-law, Jill, had a baby girl in November. Did anyone close to you die? Yes, Rob’s Grandmother What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012? Less stress, less worrying, more peace. What date from 2012 will remain etched upon…

    Christmas Day 2012

    Christmas Day was busy. We started off with homemade sausage balls and apple strudals. Then Rob and I looked in our stockings and the boys showed us what they had in their stockings, since that’s the one thing they can look at before Rob and I get up. Then the obligatory pics in front of the Christmas tree. Finally, what the kids had been waiting for since 6:30 am, the opening of the presents! Daisy’s looking for hers. Great gift, lil’ bro! Daisy ripping open her 2nd present. After opening gifts playing his new games. My sweet girl hanging out…
