    Memories of the Month {5.2015}

I can’t believe we are already almost half way done with this year and it’s already June! What? The end of the school year is always so busy, so it’s over in a blink. This month I was happy about: that Alex is done with elementary school! I loved the first elementary school that he and Drew went to, but then the district decided to have sister schools. This is where they have K-2 at one school and 3-5 at the sister school. This happened with Alex was going into 4th grade, so he had to attend the new school…

    6 Months….

I’m sure I depressed everyone with my posts about my Dad over Father’s Day Weekend. However, today marks 6 months since he’s been gone. My brother’s post on Facebook saying, “Wow six months,” I replied: “Ugh. Hits ya in the gut. Sometimes it seems like yesterday, but others seems like he’s been gone forever. However, my brain still seems to think that I can call him up to ask him something or share something funny. I guess that may never go away.” I’m amazed at how the pain hasn’t subsided. Maybe it’s still too early…I don’t know. Since I was…

    Rob’s Award

Rob got an award at work. Yeah, he’s been at this job less than a year and is already getting recognized. So proud of him! He got a certificate, the shirt he’s wearing in the picture, and a day off! Below is a picture of Rob, his boss, and his other coworker who got the award.

    Literary Junkies

    1. What are you reading? Tell us about it! I’m in between books right now. However, I think I’m going to start reading, That Summer, by Sarah Dressen. I’ve been wanting to start reading her books and we just happened to have that one in at the library right now! 2. Library or bookstore? Well since I work at a library, I know all the ends-and-outs of using books for free. 3. What book(s) have you read and re-read several times? I am a huge fan of anything Beverly Cleary. I grew up reading her books and continued the trend…

    Remembering Dad Today…

I’m just not even sure how or where to start with this post. The past few days I’ve been in anticipating Father’s Day rolling around and have been seriously dreading it! It’s not surprising that “Father’s Day” takes on a new definition when your Dad dies. My definition of Father’s Day now includes a tug in my heart knowing that my Dad is no longer just a phone call away. Instead, I’ll get a lump in my throat thinking back to last November and December when he suffered physically and mentally, only because he saw what was going on with…

    The Riding Continues On…

When my Dad found out he had ALS, he knew he wouldn’t be able to ride his bikes anymore. He told me in one of our conversations that he planned to give Drew his nice mountain bike and Alex could have the smaller bike. He explained that the bike Drew was getting was a really nice bike worth quite a bit of money and would cost quite a bit to keep up.

Lake Martin on Memorial Day 2014

The Friday before Memorial Day weekend, we loaded up the car, with the best camping gifts for a fun weekend of camping on the lake with the F@rrow Family. Among our essentials, we also brought along this Mini Katana for our camping adventure. Drew and his friend, Joe, who the 2nd eldest child of the F@rrow bunch, got to the lake early afternoon. When we arrived they had all of the tents set up. The big canopy tent for us to use for shade as well as the cooking area. Since we had some of the cooking gear with us,…

    Missing my boy…

Dear Drew, Man, you’ve been gone just over 2 weeks now. I’ve missed you like crazy! It was kinda funny, the Thursday before you left, that evening, I was missing you already and you hadn’t even left yet. Before I left that afternoon to go to work, you and I laid across the bed and looked different pics and videos about Philmont. It’s little memories like that that are so special. Thursday evening during my dinner break, Dad asked you if you were homesick and you said yes, I just laughed knowing the tinge I was feeling in the pit…

Cub Scout Beach Trip 2013::Pensacola, FL

This past weekend was the Annual Cub Scout Pack Summer trip, but instead of venturing to higher ground, we braved the heat at the beach. Yes, we camped near the beach in Pensacola, Florida. Many leaders suggest it every year and every year a few other leaders are quick to nicks the idea. However, this year we thought we’d give it a turn. We stayed at Big Lagoon State Park, which was quite large with lots of camping areas. (Wikipedia) After Breakfast of egg, sausage, & potato scramble, we had a quick FYI meeting and a group picture. The braves…

1 Month and No Diet Coke

One month ago today, I quit Diet Coke and really all sodas for that matter. I went cold turkey from May 5th on. Before that I was weaning myself off, but I knew the caffeine headaches would be brutal. They still were for about 2 1/2 weeks after I quit. Someday I satiated the headaches with a little sweet tea and some days I just took some Tylenol. So what am I drinking instead? Mostly water, but some juice, milk, lemonade. Honestly, I haven’t really “missed” it like I thought I would. It’s just breaking that habit of ordering one…

Drew’s Upcoming High Adventure Trip to Philmont

The guys on one of their practice hikes at Chewacla State ParkIt’s usually this time of year, when I send out the address where you can send Drew cards, letters, money, etc while he’s away at Boy Scout Camp. This year he’s not going on a normal camping trip. On June 14th, he will board a plane to Denver, Colorado where he will spend a few days getting acclimated to the altitude while site-seeing in that area. On June 17th, he’ll arrive at Philmont Scout Ranch (near Cimarron, New Mexico) where he and 8 other boys along with 2 of…
