    Too Good Not to Share

    One of my former student workers recently posted an awesome link to facebook and it’s just too good not to share. I’ve spent an hour just scrolling through. It’s called Underground New York Public Library, which “is a visual library featuring the Reading-Riders of the NYC subways” by Ourit Ben-Haim. A concept so simple yet so intriguing, entertaining, and insightful. Each photograph tells such a story truly bringing into play the saying a “a photograph is worth a 1,000 words.” Periodically Ourit tells of how she took the shot and then had to interrupt that person to get the title.…

    Carnival Dream::Day 1 {Embarkation}

    Here’s my first of probably at least 7 posts about our cruise earlier this month that will include lots of cruising tips. They may be a little spread out, but I’m just super busy now and am working on writing these up and going through photos as I have time. Friday we left to head up to Valley, AL to watch Drew march during halftime. We had made arrangements before hand to snatch him up as soon as they came off the field and head south. That’s exactly what we did. I think it was almost 9 pm when we…

    Game Day for Scouts

    Saturday was Scout Day at Auburn University’s football game, which means all Scouts and Scout leaders get in free! It was an 11:20 kick off which made for another early day. Rob is in charge of giving out tickets for the Boy Scouts, so we had to be on campus at 9am. We took the shuttle over and while we were waiting for our stuff to be set up, my friend, MJ, and I decided to go over to the Alumni tent. While I was there, I had someone come up and asked if I was “Magnolia Mom,” which was…

    Calgon take me away….

    As if it weren’t difficult enough coming back from a week long vacation. Getting back to reality after a week away is just down right hard. We’ve also had (one or more) furry little creatures inhabit our home while we were away. A water leak in the kitchen, which has now caused damage. To-do-lists piled up to our eyeballs. And now, I think I’m getting sick. So maybe I’m not asking Calgon to take me away, but I would ask God to give us the strength and wisdom to get through all this. And a day with no drama, would…

    Busy Football Friday

    Friday was a busy day. As much as I had hoped to get a lot of items marked off my to-do-list, it just didn’t happen. I spent about half a day at work. Fridays are not usually days that I work but it was our Open House. I was on the committee for that, so it was necessary for me to be there. I didn’t take a lot of pics, because I was busy working it. Here’s a collage with a couple shots. Friday evening I went to see Drew march at the football game. I went by myself because…

    Memories of the Month {9.2012}

    This month I was happy about: getting away from it all for a week. This month I was sad about: coming back to all and dealing with a water leak, water damage, and rodents who decided to inhabit our house while we were gone. Something I accomplished this month is: getting my water bill fixed after calling twice and having a water guy come out so I could prove that had messed up! Something new I did was: zipline in the jungles of Honduras. Books I read were: Wild at Heart by John Eldredge (couldn’t finish) Pecans: A Savor the…

    Bon Voyage, Y’all

    This month has been crazy!! I have been swamped with soccer league and soccer tourney pics the last month. I’ve barely had time to be excited about sailing on Saturday…OK, I admit, I’ve made time to be excited about our cruise. This past weekend me and a friend who I hired to help me shoot a soccer tourney took over 9,000 total pictures. So this week, we had to weed through them and thank goodness for Rob has gotten them put on the online galleries. So most hours that I was not working, this week I’ve spent them dealing with…

    Memories of the Month {8.2012}

    This month I was happy about: the excitement of going on the cruise. This month I was sad about: the death of Bob Birch (Long time guitarist for Elton John) & Neil Armstrong. Somethings I accomplished this month are: getting the soccer league pictures taken. Now when I get back, I have to finish editing and ordering and delivering. Something new I did was: switched cable from Charter to Knology to save $50 a month! Books I read were: none, to busy to read. Movies I watched were: Gnomeo & Juliet another movie…can’t remember what it was called TV Shows…

    Crustaceans

    While discussing the fact we’ll get to eat lobster on the cruise, Drew says, “I’m not sure I like crustaceans!” I laughed for 5 minutes straight after that.

    So I never told you about the scooter….

    Yah, so I’m just a few months late getting this story up. Nothing too exciting really. I just needed pictures of the thing was the main hold back. A friend of ours was moving and hence, selling a bunch of stuff. One of the things they were getting rid of was this scooter. We thought of several reasons why we thought it might be good to get it. We took it for a test drive and bought it the next day. We don’t drive it on a regular basis now, but it is nice to have a 3rd form of…

    Back to School {2012}

    School finally started today! It was supposed to start 2 weeks ago, but just before school was out our state legislature decided to mandate schools to start later this year. For years they’ve been talking about forcing schools to start after Aug. 20th, because “it’s hurting our beach tourism.” Anyway, we were all happy for school to be back in session. I was real happy with the teacher that Alex got. Drew had Mrs. S for 3rd grade, so I was happy that Alex got her too! I think it’s going to be a great year. We had a good…

    Library Story #5

    Today at work a lady called in reference to her son’s bursar bill that had a fine for a book that was never turned in. She wanted to know what the title of the book was. Well with a specific question like that we get into the issue with privacy. I politely told her due to privacy reasons, I couldn’t answer any specific question such as that. My boss happened to be standing there and he joked saying that we could have all sorts of issues if we were to talk to parents about their kids’ accounts, like what if…

    Memories of the Month {7.2012}

    This month I was happy about: vacationing in the mountains. This month I was sad that: the passing of Rob’s Grandmother. Somethings I accomplished this month were: 2 steps forward, 1 step back to getting the house as clean as I would like it. Something new I did was: go see Aerosmith in concert. Books I read were: SnApp Shots: How to Take Great Pictures with Smartphones and Apps One Tuesday Morning (9/11 Series, #1) by Karen Kingsbury (very very good!) Atlanta’s Oakland Cemetery: An Illustrated History and Guide Movies I watched were: Crazy, Stupid, Love (tried to finish, but…

    Baton Rouge Visit

    I feel like I haven’t blogged in forever! I am so far behind and with each passing day, I get farther and farther behind. It’s so frustrating, but life has been so busy. Although, it’s summer, it sure doesn’t feel like except for the HEAT outside. Sometimes I think life would be easier if we all had a pause button, so I could get caught up! Never hurts to dream, right? Well, I’m going to do my best this week to get caught up on my pictures and my blog. Friday July 20th, we picked Drew up at the end…

    Fun times in the North Georgia Mountains

    Sunday we headed out to the Track Rock Gap Archaeological Area to see petroglyphs made by Native Americans. Most of them were so weather-warn you could hardly make out the shapes, but I just stood there closed my eyes and imagined the Natives pounding away at the rocks to make those carvings. Amazing! We left there and drove over to the John C. Campbell Folk School, which is a school that allows a non-competitive, adult learning community offering classes in art, cooking, craft, dance, gardening, music, etc. that vary in length.

    Another fun day in the Georgia Mountains

    Saturday was kind of a lazy day, much to Rob’s chagrin. He and my FIL, David, ended up going to the store for steaks and also to check out a couple spots. After they got back we ate lunch and decided to go tubing at Pappy’s. Every time we left the cabin, we passed this place and it piqued our curiosity. It was like $6 for an hour of tubing, but it ended up being nearly 2 hours on the river. Really great for the money! Then, when we got done tubing we walked around Pappy’s. There’s a general store…

    Fishing, Young Harris, and Lake Chatuge

    Friday we got up, had a quick breakfast, and headed out to see if we could get any fish to bite. Since we needed to find out a good place to fish and get some bait, so we stopped at Paradise Bait and Tackle. We saw signs for it as we drove toward the river. Turned out to be a little building on someone’s property. My MIL had to use to restroom, so the man called up his Mama and asked, “are you dressed? cuz I gots a young lady customer who needs to use the facilities.” There were several…

    Syd Bream Bobblehead Day at the Braves

    Atlanta Braves Welcome Legends of the Game for Third Annual Alumni Weekend Alumni Softball Game (1992 Braves vs. Braves Alumni) So cool I got this shot. Here you see Mark Wohlers running from 1st to 2nd base. He had actually just batted the ball back with his hand. So funny! Between the softball game and the actual baseball game, they had a ceremony to commemorate Sid Breams’ Slide.
