    New Year’s Resolutions

I originally said that I was not going to make a list of resolutions this year, but I’m a habitual list maker and I just couldn’t resist the Mama Says Om’s Theme for this week. Here’s my uberlist for this year: 1. I will yell less & praise more. 2. I will frown less & smile more. 3. I will quit being so angry. 4. I will count to 10 before spouting off. 5. I will be a more positive person. 6. I will try harder to keep negative thoughts to myself at work. 7. I will be on my…

Stuff from the Ages: 7th Grade Journal (p. 1)

I found a journal that I had to do in 7th grade. I’ll never forget my flamboyant, outspoken 7th grade English teacher, Mrs. Talbert. A couple days a week we had an assignment, where we had to write in our journals. Here’s the first assignment, which was entitled: My first day at Richland Junior High (typed without fixing errors) My first day at Richland Junior High was one of the most confusing days of my life. Remembering what room to go to next, what my next class was, etc. etc. made it more and more difficult. but I did enjoy…

    Friday Feast #17

Appetizer How do you usually celebrate on New Year’s Eve? We usually watch the ball drop on TV and have senseless desire to be shivering with the thousands of people partying up in Time Square to welcome in the New Year. Someday we’ll do that! Soup Name one thing unexpected that happened to you in 2006. We decided to sell our house. Salad Where was your favorite place that you visited in 2006? We didn’t really go anywhere exciting this year, so I’d have to say visiting the house we want was my favorite place. Main Course What resolution is…

    Christmas Eve Adventure

As you can see Alex got his foot stuck Christmas Eve, while trying a new kind of cookie we had made for Santa. At first we tried to just squeeze it out. Then, we tried to take the back of the chair off. We were thinking we were going to have to break or saw part of the chair to get it out. But then I had him turn and get back on his knees and were able to squeeze it out. Just a little adventure before putting out the cookies for Santa and getting tucked in for the long…

    Stuff with Invisible Legs!

It seems that each year after Christmas everything we give or get for Christmas has invisible legs. What I mean by that is that as hard as I try, there is Christmas gifts everywhere. I try to find a home for all the new toys, DVDs, books, clothes, and whatever else. But I feel as though as soon as I put it down the invisible little legs pop out and they find their way back to the middle of living room floor! As much as I want someone to come look at the house, it’s probably a good thing no…

    Struggles with Believing

Yes, Drew is at the age where his friends are letting it be known that they don’t believe in Santa. Drew is really struggling to believe in him. He was questioning everything today about Santa. Even though we told him last year that most of the Santa we see are just his helper, he still days well why does the REAL Santa come to our mall? I did the best I could to explain, but he continued to say things like “Well, I just don’t know why we don’t get to see Rudolph” or “How does he get all over…

    Christmas Ramblings (Part 2)

Well, I got everything done with newsletters and packages today. I also got some other gifts wrapped. We had our work party today. It seems that everytime I make something to contribute to the party food, it never gets eaten. It just makes me not want to contribute. We had like 20 desserts, but that’s what I was supposed to bring. Oh well! Anyway, it turned out that my secret pal who I had had me too, which I was pretty sure that was the case. He seemed to be really shocked that I was his secret pal. I think…

I was trying to get a package mailed out today, but I didn’t! I also haven’t finished our Christmas newsletter yet…Yes! It’s true. I hope to have those out tomorrow if I can finish them tonight, get them printed tomorrow, in the envelopes, sealed, stamped and dropped off! Luckily we got our shopping done yesterday, so we just have a couple things to pick up for the kids. I have my…

This just rips my heart out

This morning I found out that one of my student’s mother was murdered last night. When he got up he went to wake his mom up and walked through what he thought was water (because ‘the pipes are always leaking’) and it ended up being his own mother’s blood. He found her dead, beaten, stabbed, and her throat was slit. When his homeroom teacher went to check on him today he was outside being interviewed by TV reporters. What the heck is wrong with those people? This 5th grade child just found his mother dead and they have TV cameras…
