A few weeks ago, we were traveling somewhere and Alex was “playing a game” with Drew, where he would hide the folded-up straw wrapper and Drew would have to guess where it was. Alex had a brilliant place to put it. See the pic below. I wasn’t aware of what was going on in the back seat, but at some point, I turned around and realized Alex didn’t have his seat belt on. As any good mom would do, I told him to put the seat belt on immediately. So he attempted to, but couldn’t because he has forgotten he…

Last Friday Alex’s Cub Scout Den met up at the Auburn University fisheries for a Den Meeting to complete the requirements for the Fishing Belt Loop. Drew caught 2 fish. And so did Alex. There were a couple pretty large fish caught. All fish were thrown back in after the hooks were removed. See more pics here.

Teenager’s Boy Scout Troop has been using part of the upstairs offices in Rob’s company’s building. As a thank you to Rob’s company, the Troop put on an Open House for everyone and their families. They did a great job, as everyone had a good time and enjoyed a break from the humdrum of work in an office. 🙂 Here’s a few pics: Rotisserie chicken turned with real man power Axe/tomahawk throwing Tying knots Cooking cobbler in a dutch oven

Friday, I went to Alex’s class for the Mom & Me Tea, well, there was lemonade. The class read a poem called, “I’m Trying So Hard” It was so sweet. I wished I would have videoed it! Here’s the poem: I’m trying so hard To be really good, And do all the things I know that I should. But, I’m just a kid, Mom, I’m messy and slow, I don’t eat my veggies, And I’ll clean my room, I know! And I don’t pick my toys up, And I don’t like my bath, I’m trying to learn my spelling, And…

-Drew washed his cell phone in the washer. There was a loud banging noise after I started up the dryer, so I stopped it to see what was in there. In case this happens on your washer, better have it checked by an expert in washer and dryer repair. I was happy it wasn’t an ink pen, but was really sad to see it was his phone. We haven’t tried the rice trick yet, because I don’t have any plain rice to put it in. We just have it sitting out with the battery separated from the phone. So we’ll…

Friday we made a trip over to Lake Martin, so the boys in our den could get another requirement for the World Conservation Award, they’ve been working on. Our den leader, Mr. W., has a friend, Mr. M, who has a house on the lake. One of the things he enjoys doing to help the fish is dropping seasoned Christmas trees in the lake, which gives the little fish a safe haven from the bigger fish. So the boys got to help with this process, which is described below… Step 1: We did this step back right after Christmas. We…

It was time for the boys to get haircuts and Alex has been asking for a flat top for awhile. After having the ordeal, we had with had with Drew’s hair letting him get a flat top at age three…BIG mistake! He was a “poof head” for at least a year after that. Soooo, that has made reluctant to let Alex do it. Since he’s 8 and summer is knocking our door, we decided he could get one. So without further ado…

It seems like Drew was just turning 8. How is it that Alex is turning 8? I was looking through pics to post with this entry. I continued to see tons of pics with him wearing hats. So I made this little collage… Dear Alex, To commemorate this date that you’ve been counting down to for a week now, I decided to write to you, because I know someday neither you nor I will remember these little life details. You are so funny and I may have already written about this before, but you still do this and I love…

Me: Hey babe, can you get me a diet coke? Alex: Sure Mom, I’ll get you a dieing coke! Alex: Mom, I know a secret. Me: Someone told you a secret? Alex: No I have a secret. Me: Oh, is it good? Alex: I have 2 pimples on my butt. Me: You do? You mean your bottom? Alex: Yah, they’re big and brown. Me: Those aren’t pimples. Those are big freckles called moles. Alex: No, they’re pimples! Alex: Mom, when were you born? Me: 1975 Alex: Did they have cars back then? Me: Yes, although, computers and cell phones weren’t…

1. Me! In 2011, I was proud to finally get a job, that I love. Going from a temp employee to part of the full time staff is great. You already know everyone. You know how to do the job. It only gets better from here! 2. I Love You I love my boys and Daisy. I also love the background in this photo: Auburn, Toomer’s Oaks, and the tradition being illustrated here. 3. Still Laughing… I know I’ve got some funny pics, but for some reason, I can’t seem to remember what they are. So I chose this one…

Today we worked on Wolf Elective #13. We first went out and looked for birds. We were able to find a few birds. The boys had a hard time being quiet, which scared away the majority of the birds. After that we went inside and made the good ole standby activity; peanut butter pinecone bird feeders. Bonus: eating the peanut butter!

Today Drew’s Cub Scout Den went on a field trip to a crop rotation field, which we were able to make off 15e (Visit a botanical garden or other agricultural exhibition in your area.) in his Wolf book . There they grow cotton, soy beans, and corn. This crop rotation study is 100 years old this year. Pretty amazing! Cullars Rotation Soy Beans: These are used for making plastics. This particular crop is not the type of soy bean that is used for foods. Busted cotton Look at my baby! See all the pictures from this den meeting here. At…

Lake Martin is man-made; formed by the construction of Martin Dam on the Tallapoosa River. It spans across Alabama counties: Tallapoosa, Elmore and Coosa. A 44,000-acre lake with over 750 miles of beautifully wooded shoreline. Lake Martin is a great place to swim, boat, fish, water ski, and camp. It’s a great quick getaway for many Alabama residents, especially those in Auburn. Source With it only being about a 30 minute drive from our house, it makes for a great day trip. This year our friends invited us back to Lake Martin for a Memorial Day celebration. Some other friends…

What a great season of baseball for Alex! He had 2 spectacular coaches, husband and wife, Wade Benson & Jill Haas. Coach Benson was the Auburn University volleyball head coach who just resigned. His wife, Coach Haas, played for the American Women’s Baseball national team for the championship in Japan in 2000. To say we had really qualified coaches would be an understatement. We saw great improvements in Alex, as well as the entire team. End of the year party

Today Alex is 7! WOW! It seems like I was just saying that about Drew. I hope to write something more substantial later, but right now I’m still recovering from being gone for 3 days. See list of all birthday posts.
