The Friday before Memorial Day weekend, we loaded up the car, with the best camping gifts for a fun weekend of camping on the lake with the F@rrow Family. Among our essentials, we also brought along this Mini Katana for our camping adventure. Drew and his friend, Joe, who the 2nd eldest child of the F@rrow bunch, got to the lake early afternoon. When we arrived they had all of the tents set up. The big canopy tent for us to use for shade as well as the cooking area. Since we had some of the cooking gear with us,…

This month I was happy about: just life in general. Excited for the impending holidays. This month I was sad about: my Dad’s diagnosis. Something I accomplished this month was: flying out to see my Dad.

This past Saturday evening our Pack celebrated the accomplishments of 9 of scouts who have earned the Arrow of Light award. This year we did the ceremony at the Forest Ecology Preserve. Read what the Arrow of Light Ceremony/Award is here on the post from 2009, when the year Drew earned his arrow of light. The Boy Scouts talking over the logistics of the ceremony. The pond down the hill. Here’s Alex standing next to the stack of wood that is ready to be lit. Time to eat! Boy Scouts prepare for ceremony. Bonfire = time for ceremony Boy Scouts…

My pic of the day is pics of the day, because I had several pics I wanted to post from the Blue & Gold Banquet. You can see ever more pics here. It’s amazing how a room can become so festive with lots of hard work from our great group of volunteers Alex getting his awards Alex and me standing on stage while he gets his Wolf rank Alex with one of the super heroes

On the way to take Alex from school to Rob’s work, he said, “Today I accidentally had a great example of cause and effect.” The cause was I spilled some chocolate milk on me. The effect was I smelled like sour milk. And another effect from it was that the janitor had to come mop up the floor.”

Christmas Eve and the day before, I was busy baking and cooking. In the late afternoon of Christmas Eve, Alex performed in our church’s children pageant. He was a shepherd (without a headdress for some reason). Our preachers welcoming us. Afterwards, we went home to eat the Christmas Eve meal that I had prepared was similar to what I did last year. Instead of doing green beans, I made baked beans. We had: Honey Baked Ham Hash Brown Casserole Homemade Baked Beans – recipe coming soon After our dinner, we watched a Christmas movie and then went back to church…

Thursday afternoon Alex’s Cub Scouts went to church to help make up boxes for the food pantry. Our church provides food for those that are need every Friday and they make up all the boxes on Thursdays. He enjoyed being able to help others. After that we went to the hospital because his class collected books and toys for the little boys and girls in the hospital around the holidays. After doing good deeds he and I had a Mom and Me date at Chick-fil-a.

Yesterday we headed out to Wetumpka to the tree farm we found last year. Somebody’s ready to cut one down! Alex says, “This one is just my size!” We quickly found this one. And decided to cut it down. The boys cut it down all by themselves this year. First time ever! Rob was happy he didn’t have to get down there and help. Off to get it shook and baled. Alex concludes, “On 2nd thought, Mom. I think we should have bought this one!” More pics here.

This month I was happy about: getting the kitchen done! This month I was sad about: Auburn high losing in the 3rd round of the playoffs. Somethings I accomplished this month were: getting the kitchen done! Something new I did was: helping with the demolition of part of our kitchen and helping with installing new counter tops. Books I read were: The Rough Guide To The Maya World by Peter Eltringham The Lords of Tikal: Rulers of an Ancient Maya City by Peter D. Harrison Lonely Planet Belize by Mara Vorhees Every Now and Then (9/11, #3) by Karen Kingsbury…

Alex and I were driving somewhere today. There was car in front of us at the light. Alex noticed a dog in the passenger side. He pointed it out to me and at first, I saw the white shaggy dog type hair and started thinking, “Hmm…what kind of dog is that? Oh, I think it’s a Sheepdog.” However, the closer I looked at it the more it appeared to be someone just petting their own head. I was like, “Are you sure that’s a dog?” Alex looked closer and said, “Oh, well, maybe it’s not.” We both laughed and continued…

Saturday was Scout Day at Auburn University’s football game, which means all Scouts and Scout leaders get in free! It was an 11:20 kick off which made for another early day. Rob is in charge of giving out tickets for the Boy Scouts, so we had to be on campus at 9am. We took the shuttle over and while we were waiting for our stuff to be set up, my friend, MJ, and I decided to go over to the Alumni tent. While I was there, I had someone come up and asked if I was “Magnolia Mom,” which was…

School finally started today! It was supposed to start 2 weeks ago, but just before school was out our state legislature decided to mandate schools to start later this year. For years they’ve been talking about forcing schools to start after Aug. 20th, because “it’s hurting our beach tourism.” Anyway, we were all happy for school to be back in session. I was real happy with the teacher that Alex got. Drew had Mrs. S for 3rd grade, so I was happy that Alex got her too! I think it’s going to be a great year. We had a good…
