For Spring Break we usually drive down to Florida to visit with Rob’s Grandparents and take in some Spring Training games. Our old son, Drew and Rob are the real baseball fans of the family. This year with Drew not being able to take off work and knowing that Alex could pretty much care less to go to baseball game and the fact that Sunday of Spring Break was Alex’s birthday, we decided to let him invite a friend and to go to amusements parks. We decided that we would try to attend games within about an hour of Tampa, which would make going to Busch Gardens doable.
We left Friday evening after work. Stopped in Albany, GA for dinner at Chili’s. After that we had to get pliers at Walmart because one of our chargers broke off in Conner’s phone! We ended up stopping in Cheifland, Fl for the night.
The next morning we were off to Spring Hill to visit Rob’s Grandparents and uncles.
Rob and his Uncle Mike guided Alex and his friend C through how to make Cavatelli. Alex had decided that’s what he wanted for his pre-birthday dinner.
Finished off with Alex’s favorite cake: Publix Bakery Bar Cake, Salted Caramel Heath with vanilla ice cream
Rob’s Gramma’s health has been declining for quite some time. We were sad that she was in bed and was too out of it to join us for the birthday dinner. After dinner Alex opened his birthday gifts and we headed down to Tampa to our hotel>>>Residence Inn Tampa .
The next day was a full day at Busch Gardens. Read about that here>>>Busch Gardens
Tuesday was our adventure over to Orlando for a day at SeaWorld. Read about that here>>>>SeaWorld
Spring Training
Detroit Tigers We have been to Joker Marchant Stadium where the Tigers play before in 2019 & 2016. We went to this game on Tuesday, but before heading to Lakeland, we dropped the boys off at Busch Gardens for the day. So it was just Rob and me at this game.
Picture from our box on the berm.
Philadelphia Phillies We have been to the Phillies’ Spring Training stadium before in 2016 &
2015.
The berm seating here for COVID were marked with numbered signs.
We had really good seats for this game. Alex and his friend came to this game with us.
After the game we drove to Lakeland to meet up with another family, as Alex’s friend was going to be with his girlfriend and her family for the rest of the week at Disney. Then we found a place called SB&B Seafood Bar and Grill. Very interesting place. Unique atmosphere, but the food was amazing! We got the Garlic Butter Shrimp Pan. We got the 30 piece shrimp pan. So it had 30 shrimp, potatoes, corn, and sausage cooked in a finger lickin’ good garlic butter sauce.
Toronto Blue Jays Thursday we got up, loaded the card and drove to our favorite spring training location! Dunedin where the Blue Jays play is not only one of our favorite Spring Training Parks, it’s also one of our favorite Florida towns. So we’ve been there in 2020, 2017, 2016, 2015.
Our favorite place to eat Dunedin, so far is the Crown and Bull. We ate their last year and Rob and I just fell in love with it. The outdoor seating is such a lovely atmosphere and the food is top notch! Below is a picture I snapped last year.
Alex isn’t a fan of the menu, so he just got a Cesar Salad. I got the BRIES KNEES burger with sweet potato fries.
Rob got the eggs benedict with a special Chipoltle Hollandaise sauce with some type of cheesy roasted potatoes.
After lunch we took the 1/2 mile stroll over to the stadium. There are walking and bike paths in downtown Dunedin that is another reason why we love this town so much.
When the game was over we headed back to our car, but went a different way so we could see the water.
From there it was back to Spring Hill for a quick stop to see the fam, especially Gramma since we didn’t get to hug her goodbye on Saturday.
Rob’s mom and sister and a few of her kids had just gotten there when we arrived. We stayed about 20 minutes and then headed home. We got home around midnight.
It was another great Spring Break trip! I know Rob would have liked Drew to come with us since he’s his baseball buddy. However, I think doing the trip this way was really appreciated by Alex and I really enjoyed adding in the amusement parks. Although the amusement parks made this trip much more expensive! Curious to see what we’ll come up with next year!

That food all looks so delicious! It looks like you had a lot of fun!
So much fun! Food is one of my favorite parts of traveling.
Some year we will do the Spring Training tour! This looks like so much fun and you got a great variety of games and stadiums.
Yes, its crazy how the last couple years we’ve inadvertently followed a visiting team around, but it ends up just working with where we want to be.
