I feel like I’m in a mad dash to get so much done before Christmas…actually the week before Christmas! Anyone else feeling the same way? Anyway, here we are for another cruise/NYC post.
If you missed the other posts from this trip you can look here>>>New York 2023 Trip.
So on Day 10, it was our day to disembark from the Carnival Venezia for the last time. We had a long wait to get off the ship. I believe it was because since this was a 4 day cruise, most people were carrying all their luggage on and off the ship. Those people always get to go first before people who had their luggage taken off. Since Rob and I were gone for nearly 2 weeks, not just the 4 days on the cruise we had a lot of luggage and weren’t able to carry everything on and off.
We got to see the ship being fueled up at port.
Once we got off the ship and walked a little ways out from the cruise port with all our luggage and ordered an Uber to our hotel. We were able to drop off our luggage in their storage area, since our room wasn’t ready yet.
Chelsea Market
First stop was Chelsea Market, which we took a taxi to. There we walked around and got some lunch.
Home of the Oreo!
Lunch!
Little Island
From Chelsea Market, we walked over to Little Island, which is only about 2 tenths of a mile.
Little Island at Pier 55 (W 13th St) is a manmade island park in the Hudson River west of Manhattan in New York City, adjoining Hudson River Park. It is near the intersection of West Street and West 13th Street in the Meatpacking District and Chelsea neighborhoods of Manhattan.
Walking the High Line
The High Line is a 1.45-mile-long (2.33 km) walking path built on an old elevated freight line and it is a must see if you’re ever in NYC. It’s not just another boring walking path. You will find beautiful murals, gardens, interesting buildings including condos and apartments you can only imagine how expensive they are to live in.
I loved this shot. I was so excited when my eye caught the Chrysler building through the tall branches of this plant.
This caught my eye as well.
The Vessel
After walking nearly the entire High Line, we walked over to the vessel. The Vessel is an elaborate honeycomb-like structure that rises 16 stories with 154 flights of stairs, 2,500 steps, and 80 landings for visitors to climb. Vessel is the main feature of the 5-acre (2.0 ha) Hudson Yards Public Square. Currently you can walk around in and inside it, but you can not enter the actual vessel.
Here we are on the inside looking up.
Central Park
After that we took the subway over to Central Park.
We found a bench over near the iconic Bow Bridge and enjoyed lots of people watching.
We ate an early dinner at Westway Diner. Then walked back to the hotel to get checked in and rest before heading back out.
Broadway
We finally saw Wicked on Broadway and it was spectacular! A must see for sure.
After that we needed a little snack so we went to Juniors for their famous cheesecake. Delish!
Such a great day! So many things on our to do list checked off!
Oh, what a fun New York day!!! And now I want some NYC pizza and a Broadway musical!
I think ALL shows are better on Broadway aren’t they? While we have never eaten at Junior’s we do love their cheesecakes. My husband works with a company that sends us cheesecakes from Junior’s often. In fact we just enjoyed an Oreo version the week before Christmas.
