The other day I was looking at the commercial brand taco seasoning container. I noticed on the ingredients list that it included all sorts of stuff that was not just seasoning. At that point, I decided to try and make my own Taco Seasoning Recipe to lessen the amount of all those extra chemicals, preservatives, etc that my family ingests. Every little bit helps, right?
Servings: 12
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
Ingredients:
3/4 cup chili powder
6 teaspoons paprika
3 teaspoons garlic powder
3 teaspoons onion powder

1/3 cup cumin (less if you’re not a fan)
1 tablespoon salt (more to taste)
3 tablespoons pepper
Directions:
Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl.
Store in an airtight container.
When you’re ready to cook:
1. Brown 1 lb. of hamburger meat.
2. When it’s most of the way cooked, drain grease.
3. Sprinkle in about 3 tbs. of taco seasoning along with about a cup of water.
4. Stir to ensure mix gets distributed evenly.
5. Simmer for about 10 minutes until some of the water evaporates and flavors are incorporated into the meat.
6. Serve with hard or soft taco shells and shredded cheese, dice tomatoes, and shredded lettuce if desired.

I’ve always thought of making my own. How spicy is this… I’m not a big fan of spicy.
This isn’t spicy to me. However, I’m used to spicy stuff. So if you’re concerned about that leave out the red pepper flake. You can always add it in, but you can’t take it out. 🙂
Looks delicious as usual. Tacos sound so good right now!
This looks yummy! I love making my own taco seasoning and I’m running low, so this will have to be the one I try next!
