When planning this trip and knowing that the Rose Festival would be going on we structured it so we’d be in Portland at the right time. We decided that since we were here during the Grand Floral Parade that we needed to go. I was glad we did.
It was also Fleet Week, which is always a sight to see. We were hoping to get over to ships after the parade to get a tour of one of the US Naval Ships but we missed it by a few minutes. So instead we walked up to the near by bridge to get a look from overhead.
After lunch, we were trying to figure out what to do and since I always enjoy going to the International Test Rose Garden we made our way there.
Literally hundreds of different kinds of roses. I could spend hours there. However, I was so tired so we decided to make our way back to the car.
I spotted this little guy munching on bushes near the roses.
Rob took us up to Council Crest Park since it was a beautiful clear day. We got great views all 5 snow capped mountains, Mt Hood, Mt St Helens, Mt Adams, Mt Rainier and even Mt Jefferson.
From there we went to Stanford’s for dinner. I got my steak and it was amazing. It was the Chimichurri Steak from their speciality menu. Rob and Alex got a steak as well. They were both cooked not to their desired temperature and at that point Rob was over it. Just ready to get back to the hotel. The manager came out a couple times and we ended up bringing 2 free steaks back to the hotel. I also got a free dessert. The manager definitely made up for how terrible the kitchen did that night.
The next day we didn’t have a lot time to do much, so we drove around a bit. We were able to see the dragon boat races from the road as well as views of Mt. Hood. We also drove up near Oregon Health & Science University and were able to see some beautiful views and a cool totem pole.
We had a great time on this trip and are always anxious to get back. If you get the opportunity to make it out to the Pacific Northwest, I highly recommend it!
