    What’s in a Name?

    Writing Assignment: 3.) How did you parents choose your name? What does it mean? What would you change your name to if you could? (inspired by Mama’s Losin It) This writing assignment was difficult to choose. I could have written about almost all of them! I chose to write about my name. I don’t use my name on here too much. I’m going to put it here now, but since google is so smart I’m adding stars to trick google up! Lysha pronounced Lee-sha. My mom had actually decided to name me Miranda, but my Dad’s grandmother and my Mom…

    Show Us Your Life {Favorite Team, Tailgating, & Traditions}

    My favorite team is Auburn. It’s not just a team I root for, it’s my alma mater. Auburn is now home and has been since I moved here in 1996. It’s great living in a college town. Although, we don’t “tailgate” much, we often meet up with other tailgaters or usually just hang out on campus before games. We enjoy the parades & pep rallies before the games. Drew posing with the homecoming floats (a few years ago). Before every game there is always lots of fun stuff for kids, like face painting. Tigerwalk is like nothing you’ve ever seen!…

    Friends {a poem}

    Writing Assignment: 2.) Find your one very favorite picture of Summer and write a poem about it. (inspired by Mama’s Losin It) This is one of my favorite pictures from summer. Usually my fav pics do not include me, but I do love this one because of my great friend in it. Friends are something we often take for granted. Friends are people who are there no matter how bad life gets. They’re there to root you on when the going is good. They are not jealous of your accomplishments. They support you no matter what. They don’t turn their…

    Life Happening

    You’ll probably see more random entries, because I just feel like I’m not documenting my life. And with all the stresses, I just don’t see how I’ll remember all this. In fact, I’m upset that I haven’t documented more the last couple of years. Oh well…I never said I was a great writer, or that my stuff is even interesting. So anyway, I’ve been substitute teaching more the last couple weeks. Up until today, I had subbed 8 straight days, which is good since I’m not getting any compensation any more. I’m hoping and praying that I can continue to…

    Randomness of today…

    — This evening around 7:40 I was able to get away and go to the grocery store! Pretty sad, when I’m excited about going to Wal-Mart. Nothing out of the ordinary, just a normal trip for groceries. I went through the self-check out, as I always do. I rang up my 50 items or so and paid. Then, as I got ready to pull my buggy away, I realized I didn’t ring up the items in the top part of the cart. Since there was a line waiting behind me, I wasn’t able to just ring up the items. I…

    Emotional Ending Soccer Game

    Last weekend Drew’s team played the USC boys from Huntsville. This team suffered a loss on August 31st, when one of their players passed away due to the Swine Flu. In remembrance of him our boys wore wrist bands with his number 18 on it. At the end of the game when shaking hands they handed the wrist bands to the other team. It was quite emotional. After our boys did that, the other team came over to us and shook our hands. The coach also came over and expressed his gratitude for the thought. It was quite emotional. We…

    Visitors

    Last weekend we had 2 sets of visitors. Drew was very excited to see his good friend, who moved 3 years ago. They haven’t seen each other that entire time, so it was such a great reunion for the boys. It seemed that they picked up right where they left off. Here’s a few pics.

    Open House at the Kindergarten

    I’ve gotten in a rut lately of not posting especially posting personal happenings. I really need to get back to that since that is what this blog was intended for. Anyway, last night was open house at the Kindergarten with Alex. I had already met his teacher at “Meet the Teacher Night,” but open house give them more of an opportunity to explain how things are structured, etc. I already had a good feel for how I thought she would run things, just based on how the room was set up and things that Alex had told me. Sitting in…

    1st Day of School

    Today was the 1st day of school for the 2009-2010 school year. Drew’s going into 6th grade, which means moving up to middle school. Alex is going to Kindergarten! One good thing out of being unemployed right now is that I got to take Alex to his first day of school ever.

    Ramblings of My Life

    You know, I haven’t actually written here in a while. Yah, I’ve posted stuff; menus, pictures, other random superficial posts. I haven’t talked about what’s been going on with me. I’m not sure you wanna hear it, but at this point, I have to remember this blog was started for me and for my family who are far away. I’ve spent the last few weeks, well really all summer, but especially the last few weeks, trying to find a teaching job. With no luck! I’ve only had 4 or 5 interviews. Teaching jobs in this is state are very hard…

    {I ♥ Faces} Week 29 – On The Beach

    I love taking pics at the beach, so I have tons of beach pics. I really had a hard time deciding. This pic is from Alex’s first trip to the beach. This was off the Georgia coast on Cumberland Island. Even more interesting…this was taken with a point and shoot camera! Be sure to check out I ♥ Faces to see all the other beautiful faces that have been entered into the contest!

    The Shack {the book}

    I just read finished finally reading The Shack. If you have not read the book, I would highly recommend it. I don’t want to discuss the book too much, because I don’t want to give anything away. I will say that I really took to heart the biblical teachings and was able to relate them to my own life. As I was reading I found some quotes that I liked. Here they are: When all you can see is your pain, perhaps you lose sight of me? -p.96 Growth means change and change involves risk, stepping from the known to…

    Children’s Drawer Labels

    I made some labels for Alex’s clothing chest of drawers. I did this with Drew’s drawers awhile back and decided make some new ones for him. I’ve actually made a couple different sets both in black & white and color. I printed out the labels, cut them out, and used packing tape over the entire label to secure them and make sure they don’t get torn with everyday use. I used the template Avery 5376 (Business Cards) in Word with borders. You could even use the actual business cards that come ready perforated to save some time. The first set…

    Feeling the Love at Camp

    Last week Drew spent his first week at camp. He went away to Boy Scout Camp in North Carolina; Camp Daniel Boone. I always loved getting stuff while away at camp, so I had a lot of fun writing letters and packaging up little things to send him. Put a mark next to “Good Mom” deeds and helping the camp newbie feel the love at camp his first year! 🙂 On the packing list was of course a laundry bag. I found this in the $1 department at Target. I also found camp postcards, stationary & envelopes, and stickers in…

    Catching Up – June 2009

    Last Friday we went downtown to the Summer Nights event. Here’s a few pics. Notice the lovely temp in the 2nd pic. Saturday Drew left for a week at camp in North Carolina. More about this later.
