Key West, oh how, I adore you! Key West was a place my Dad loved and I think that’s why it has a special place in my heart. We’re going to jump into our day in Key West on our back to back cruises on the Carnival Glory.
Before getting off the ship, we had breakfast burritos at the Blue Iquauna and then waited for the all clear.
Views from the ship
Mallory Square is right near the cruise port. This is Key West’s historic Old Town, where you will find the hub of all things touristy, shops, and more. It’s also the home to the Memorial Sculpture Garden.
Conch Train
Before we got off the ship we had decided we were going to ride the Conch Train for a way to get around as well as drive by some points of interest.
We were pretty disappointed with the lack of trains. People weren’t really getting off the train when it came to the stopping points where we were waiting to get back on. This meant there was no room for us to get on. We were thankful that one of the train drivers called in for another driver to our stop as there were a bunch of people waiting to get on.
I love just seeing the cute, quaint area. People walking and riding around on bikes. I just love it here.
Here’s some stops we loved…
The Basilica of Saint Mary Star of the Sea
Love the open air, cross breeze on a hot day
Key West City Cemetery
If you been reading my blog for any length of time, you know I love old cemeteries. I was happy to get to check this one out this time.
Lizards everywhere.
Key West Legal Rum Distillery
We stopped by this distillery, where you can try all the different rums for free, as well as take a free tour. The tour is not much of a tour, because the place is small. However, we did learn a lot about how good rum is made.
They had rum slushies…so good!
Boat House Bar & Grill for lunch
They have an extensive drink menu as well as non-acoholic lemonades. Rob got one.
We both got fish sandwiches. Delish!
Key Lime We had noticed people walking around with chocolate covered key lime pie and I decided I wanted one. We stopped at Key Lim Pie Co..
Rob got key lime ice cream…I think.
Back on the ship
After that, we decided to head back to the ship
After getting back on the ship, I took a nap and then we went for some ice cream and a beer. Later that evening here’s what we ate for dinner:
Rob:
Lentil, Pumpkin, and Chorizo Soup
Cesar salad
Lamb
Lysha:
Vegetable Spring Rolls
Lentil, Pumpkin, and Chorizo Soup
Greek salad
Tilapia
We had one day in Key West on one cruise but, for some reason, could not dock at the regular dock. So they shuttled us into town on those trains. We went to the Southernmost Point, saw some roosters, and headed back to the ship. I would love to have more time to explore because it looks like there’s lots of fun spots.
I have had key west and the other Florida keys on my “must see” travel list for quite some time. It looks like a lot of fun! That chocolate covered key lime pie looks delicious.
