Did you know about a third of people skip breakfast most days? Often meany folks that do eat breakfast eat something quick and on the go and probably not that healthy.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day or so they say. If you think about it, you’ve just ‘fasted’ for seven to twelve hours depending on when you had dinner the night before. Your body has been working hard all that time. It is going to need some healthy sustenance to boost it back up again and help you feel good too. So what can be done to make breakfast better and ensure that not only is it a healthy meal, but one that everyone has a chance to eat? Here are some ideas.
Prepare In Advance
Mornings are often rush, rush, rush to get out the door. You’ve got to force yourself out of bed, shower and dress, and you might have to do the same for your kids. Throwing something down might happen somewhere in there or maybe as you’re driving to work.
The main way that breakfast can be achieved is to prepare everything in advance. Set your coffee maker the night before using a timer so that you have freshly roasted coffee first thing. The bonus of that is the delicious aroma in the morning. Make your breakfast in the evening or over the weekend. Leave it in the fridge or oven overnight. You can even use your slow cooker. Bulk prepare when you have more time and freeze the food. Whatever you need to do, do it in advance to make it easier for you every morning.
Drink Smoothies
If you find it hard to eat a regular meal, a smoothie could be a good alternative. Again, you can prep everything the night before by chopping up fruit and vegetables and measuring out all the ingredients needed. In the morning you simply pop everything into a blender along with some natural yogurt and blend it all up.
Drinking a smoothie is much easier and quicker than sitting down to a meal when you’re in a rush, and if you include lots of fruit and vegetables you’ll be getting many of the nutrients that are needed to start your day. The other benefit of a smoothie is that if you’re running late, you can easily take it with you.
Eat What Appeals To You
Somewhere through time, the notion was developed of breakfast food, lunch food, and dinner food. Although the latter two are sometimes interchangeable for the most part they are three very different and very distinct types of food.
The important thing to remember is that there is no law that says you have to eat toast or eggs for breakfast. Just as there’s no rule that toast or eggs for dinner are a bad idea. If it means you’re going to be eating breakfast then something is often better than nothing and if a ‘dinner’ type of food is what appeals, that’s what you can eat. Or if you really like breakfast food, you may consider having all day breakfast instead.
Just remember that you’ll still need to eat healthily, so bear this in mind when it comes to exactly what food you’re eating (not when).
I am not a breakfast person but I did better at it when we made morning smoothies. We should get back into that habit.
Yes, I really want to start making smoothies too.
