After leaving Marathon, Florida, we drove through Miami over to South Beach. We stopped in at University of Miami in Coral Gables. Such a pretty entrance into campus.
We made a quick stop at Marlin’s Park too.
I was so excited to drive near the cruise ships at Port Miami.
This is one point of many during the trip when Rob and I were talking about the surrounding areas, “Kids, see the cruise ships out there?” Silence….all three of them staring at their phones or game devices.
We drove around for a good 30 minutes looking for parking. There was very few parking places and every place we found was super expensive. We finally decided that time was a wasting and we were hungry. We bit the bullet and ended up shelling out $30 to park. Yes, you read that right, Thirty Dollars! I felt so sick after Rob swiped our card to pay for the parking.
Since we were starving, eating lunch was our next priority. We walked up and down Ocean Drive and somehow decided that the $8 lunch menu at The Kitchen seemed like the most reasonable choice.
We were a bit concerned about the size of the portions and wondered if we were going to still be hungry when we got done. One of the items on my bucket list was to get a Mojito while in the Miami area. We inquired about those and quickly decided to find a cheaper one later, when they told us the small Mojito was $25. Our lunches were all good and to our surprise the servings were appropriate for lunch.
Leaving with full bellies, the kids wanted to walk over to the clock and get their picture made. It was their 4 month anniversary picture.
Then, it was on the beach for the kids, to lay out and make sand castles. There was a purple flag flying, which warned of dangerous marine life spotted. No. No sharks just a crazy amount of jelly fish.
After putting our stuff down and getting the kids settled, Rob and I were off to find a cheap Mojito on Ocean Drive.
We ended up at The Clevelander, where we got $6 Mojitos! We were quite happy to find them at that price after being quoted $25 from the last place. We’re not Mojito experts, but we thought they were pretty good especially for the price.
There’s something about the South Beach area that I have adored since the first time we came here. Sitting at the Clevelander sipping on our Mojitos we were both gawking people watching. There are so many interesting people in Miami. I also enjoyed watching the cars that drove by.
This guy made me laugh…motorcycle, cigar…like something out of a movie.
Selfie time!
After finishing off our Mojitos, we decided to walk along the beach and then join the kids on the beach for a little while.
I noticed this couple several times while we were there. They were too cute. I discreetly took this pic of them.
Walking back to our car, we passed this restaurant called Ocean’s Ten on Ocean Drive. Look just to the left of the pole. This poor girl in the pink swimsuit gets paid to dance right out in front of everyone to attract people in. I’m afraid all it did for Rob and me was make us chuckle.
These pics were taken from the deck where we soled are soul to park for the few hours we were there.
We were spending the night in Fort Lauderdale so as we headed that way we got to see more of Miami.

Keep an eye out for my next Florida trip post about Fort Lauderdale.
