I mentioned in a couple posts recently about having an Endoscopy done. I never really went into all the details, so I’m going to do that here.
Maybe 10 years ago (maybe longer), I started having acid reflux. My dr. prescribed something for it, but said I shouldn’t stay on but a couple months because its not good to be on that type of med for that long. So I did as he said. I honestly don’t remember if it helped.
Over the last 5 years maybe, I have had it so bad that when I swallow food it feels like it gets stuck, which causes me to burp a lot. If it doesn’t quickly end up going down, the food ends up coming back up. It’s gotten worse over this time period especially that couple months. Honestly, I’ve been scared to death to have a tube shoved down my throat. Googling an endoscopy gets you so many different answers about whether they sedate you, blah blah blah.
However, about a month ago when I had a check-up with my regular physician I had already made up my mind that I didn’t need to put this off any longer. I was sick and tired of not being able to eat like normal. He totally agreed that I needed an endoscopy (EDG) and they called to get that scheduled.
My endoscopy was earlier this week. I’m not going to go into all the details of that because I plan to write another post concerning what its like to have an EDG. I will say I was totally asleep. Thank goodness!
The doctor came in after I was no longer groggy (sorta) and told me I have chronic Acid Reflux Disease. He prescribed a medicine for that and said I need to stay on this medication. Do not stop taking the medication as it could take 3 months for it to work. He said my esophagus was very raw and was starting to have some scaring, which they went ahead and biopsied. I am choosing not to worry about that. They also stretched my esophagus, which I have noticed seems to really be helping. I feel like food goes down much easier and I have had no burping episodes while eating. Hallalujah!
I go back to see Dr. Gil at the end of the month for a follow up. I’ll keep you updated.
I am glad you finally have some answers. I hope the medicine helps.
Thanks! Me too. I really don’t want to have to have surgery.
My uncle had is esophagus stretched too and it really helped him. I hope the medicine helps you and you don’t have any more issues in the long run!
Thanks so much! I really hope so too. Happy Monday!
