Myakka River State Park

On Sunday morning of our Florida tour, we got up and took Gramma and Granpa out for breakfast at Susie’s Grill. We dropped back by their house to finish gathering up all our stuff before to Fort Myers.

We got a couple family shots as well.

Here’s a few scenes along the way including a couple shot of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.

When we were looking for things to do between Spring Hill and Fort Myers, both Caitlyn and I suggested going to Myakka River State Park, which is one of the oldest state parks dating back to 1942 when the park opened. It’s also one of the largest state parks spanning 37,000 acres. We paid $6 to park.

There’s a short hike to the canopy walkway from the park entrance off of 72. You walk across a nice, sturdy suspension bridge and then climb to the top of a 70-foot tower where you have an amazing view of the tops of the trees.

Just an amazing view from the 76 foot tower. It’s quite a small area when you get to the top, so I shot a few quick pics and headed back down to allow others to enjoy the view.

This is what much of the trail looks like. We had been wondering the difference between palm trees and palmetto trees. We had the question answered with placards along the trail. Here’s an explanation if you were wondering the same thing.

As we were hiking we saw this really cool palm tree that’s grown at this extreme angle, which made for a fun balancing act and some cool pics as well.

After leaving the park, we noticed a couple cars stopped on a bridge. We were curious to see what they had spotted. We pulled over, got out of the car, and got some shots.

From there we continued are trek into Fort Myers. Stayed tuned for more of our Florida tour adventures.
