When site-seeing near Chattanooga, TN, a nice place to stop at is called Point Park, which is located about 7 miles south of downtown Chattanooga. It’s great spot to get beautiful views and to soak in some Civil War history.
This ten acre memorial park overlooks the Lookout Mountain Battlefield as well as the city of Chattanooga. Take the sidewalk around the park and read about the lookout points and learn about the corresponding monuments.
The New York Peace Memorial is the largest monument in the park that was a tribute to “peace and reconciliation between Union and Confederate veterans after the war.”
We spent about 30 minutes at the park. It was a bit hazy, but still got to take in the beautiful views.
Funny story. There was a Dad and his 2 kids. The little boy was watching us. He noticed Caitlyn with her iPhone as she was taking pictures. The little boy tugged on his Dad’s shirt and said while pointing to Caitlyn, “Dad, Dad, Dad! That little girl has a phone. See? Why can’t I have one?” We laughed so hard at this. Love it!
I recommend anyone interested in American/Civil War History go to Point Park. I’d allow a 30 minutes to an hour to enjoy the views and read about the monuments. Don’t forget your camera!
Admission: $5 per adult aged 16 and over.
