Boulder City, NV (Vegas Trip Day 2)

Day 2 of our Vegas trip led me to Boulder City, where a quiet personal connection added depth to an already charming afternoon. Between burgers, browsing, and camera-clicking strolls, I found plenty worth remembering—and even more worth sharing.

Day 2
On day 2, I took the afternoon to drive over to Boulder City. A few weeks before going on this trip, I was looking at FindAGrave.com because I find it so interesting. I was going through linking some of my way back family members to each other and I realized that my Grandmother’s Dad (my Great Grandfather: George Newell) is buried in Boulder City! The photo on the website of his grave stone wasn’t that great so I thought I’d go over there and see if I could get a picture.

While researching, I found that this is a really cute little town.

First up, I happened upon some free parking, which I was so excited about since I forgot to research parking ahead of time like I usually do. Lunch was The Dillinger.

I don’t see the burger on the menu now, but it was so good. It had spicy/sweet bacon with jalapenos and pepper jack cheese. So good!

After fueling up, I hit the pavement with my camera. Did some shopping…just looking and took lots of photos of this quaint little town.

As I walked about looking at all the art displays, I felt I was being stared at….

Boulder City is where Hoover Dam is so lots of places have “Dam” in the name.

This is the Alabam statue, which honors one of the heroes of Boulder Dam. Alabam was one of few who kept the outhouses (for around 7,000 workers at the dam site) clean and stocked.

I discovered this audio walking tour, just as I was thinking I was kind of done walking around. Darn it!

One of my favorite statues was the “Monumental Professor” by Artist Gregory Johnson which you can find on Nevada Way in front of the World Famous Coffee Cup.

After eating lunch and walking around, checking out some cute stores, I took the short drive to the cemetery.

Here’s my Great Granddad’s gravestone.

I also drove by the house he was living in when he passed away.

Such a pretty (different) setting from where I live.

Not long after I got back to the hotel, Rob was done with his conference, so we walked around and went and sat out by the pool.

I love my hair out west where its not humid!

That night we went to a vendor event at The Speakeasy, but didn’t stay too long. After that we walked around and Rob got some gelato from Bellalinda gelateria italiana, then went back to the hotel.

Between historical connections and hand-scooped gelato, Day 2 had a little bit of everything. I may have come for a gravestone photo, but I left with so much more: snapshots of quirky statues, desert beauty, and one peaceful poolside moment with Rob. Boulder City surprised me—and gifted me a quiet, memorable chapter in our Vegas trip.

  1. I love all the Dam signs/names. I wish we had stopped there when we went to the Hoover Dam. It looks like such a cute town.
