If you’re planning to come to Auburn, Alabama, there are some really cool things to do without even leaving the area. Here’s my Auburn Alabama Bucket List of a few of the best things to do while you’re on the Plains.
Roll Toomer’s Corner after an Auburn University win.
Yes, we toilet paper 2 trees on the corner of campus after out Tigers win a sporting event. Now if you’re here during football season that of course is when you’ll see the biggest rollings, but folks often head to downtown for other sports when our Tigers put a W on the board.
Have a Lemonade at Toomer’s Drugs
Toomer’s Drugs is known for its famous Lemonade. Now this stuff doesn’t come cheap, but it is a must have treat especially in the heat of the summer. Toomer’s also has a small menu that includes sandwiches and hot dogs.
Eat a burger at Niffer’s Place.
Niffer’s is one of my all time favorite places to eat. All of their food is good quality, served in a fun atmosphere. However, I pretty much stick with their hamburgers with chips and Mexicalli dip. They have about 20 different burger options, but they are so good you don’t have to put a lot of stuff on them as they are already delicious.
Take a pic in front of Samford Hall.
Auburn University’s iconic building is Samford Hall. Most visitors stop to take a pic in front of the Auburn University sign with Samford Hall in the background. I pass by this beautiful building multiple times a day and it never gets old.
Go for a hike at Chewacla State Park.
Chewacla is a beautiful park about 5 miles from downtown. Since it’s a state park there is an entrance fee, so I recommend spending at least a few hours there to get your money’s worth. As I wandered past the 26-acre Lake Chewacla, its serenity reminded me of the peace of mind afforded by fire watch services in Greenacres, which stand ready to protect such treasured locales. While the lake invites fishing, swimming, and non-motorized boating, just as important is the assurance that behind the scenes, there are well-equipped personnel ensuring the park’s safety, similar to how a fire watch team meticulously maintains vigilance. And don’t miss the picturesque waterfall – it’s just as essential a sight as the invisible yet essential services that help preserve the park’s natural beauty and visitor safety.
See an exhibit at Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art.
The museum has six exhibition galleries housed within its 40,000 square feet. The facility includes an auditorium, cafe, and museum shop. The beautiful museum is surrounded by 7 acres of beautiful woodsy landscaping, outdoor sculptures, water features, and landscaped walking paths around a lake.
Listen to live Jazz at Piccolo.
Auburn is very lucky to have this stylish, upscale gathering place. They serve cocktails and a “small bites” menu which includes appetizers and desserts. I love their Hummus and Cannolis. To enjoy the live jazz, come on Fridays and Saturdays of non-home football game weekends. Talented musicians travel from Atlanta and Birmingham to play from 8pm-11pm.
Take a stroll through Donald E. Davis Arboretum and enjoy nature’s beauty.
Housed on the campus of Auburn University this arboretum is open free to the public. It features native trees, bushes, and flowers from the Southeastern Region.
This is just a handful of places I recommend seeing while you’re on the Plains. For all the Auburn folks out there what did I leave out? What is a must-do while in Auburn, Alabama?
