It’s Thanksgiving we and I’m really glad. These days many people put up there Christmas trees after Halloween. Christmas music is being played on the radio and of course, you can’t go to a store with out being overwhelmed by Christmas decorations. My family still chooses to wait to decorate until the 1st week of December. Having a real Christmas tree, it’s really not a good idea to put it up until then. With all that being said, I still love and enjoy lots of things about Thanksgiving and the month of November should be a time to be thankful. Today I’m listing 5 things that I love about Thanksgiving (in no particular order).
1. Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is something I still enjoy. I guess it’s one of those things that if I wasn’t brought up doing it, it wouldn’t be something I cared much about. I have memories of getting up on Thanksgiving morning, going to the living room, sitting on the floor cross-legged still with my gown on, and watching the parade on the console TV.
These days it’s not nearly as meaningful to watch because the parade is so commercialized and they spend a great deal of time focusing on the wrong things. Today they focus more on the celebrities and the Broadway musicals, instead of the high school marching bands and other youngsters, many of which walk door-to-door selling cookie dough or wrapping paper to pay their way to get there.
2. The Food
– Hello!
There’s something so comforting about all of the foods on a traditional Thanksgiving menu. Turkey, sweet potatoes, gravy, stuffing. The list goes on.
3. Food Coma
Your not eating enough if you don’t want or have to pass out on the couch after your big Thanksgiving meal. I mean really. Thanksgiving is the one time of year that it’s ok to stuff your face until you pass out. Who can’t love that?
4. Family Time
I know some people dread spending time with in-laws and extended family. For me, I really enjoy it. Since we live in closer proximity to most of Rob’s family, we usually spend our holidays with a part of his family; the in-laws. I am thankful that I get along well with most of Rob’s family. I enjoy spending time with family whether it be my family or Rob’s side.
5. A Time to Be Thankful
In my busy life, I don’t often take time to think about all the things I have to be thankful for. I enjoy having the time on Thanksgiving to reflect and just thank God for all that he has blessed me with. It just doesn’t get any better than that.
So what do you love about Thanksgiving? Or would you rather just skip it and go straight to Christmas?
