From fro-yo runs to a 50th birthday bash, here’s what life looked like lately around our corner of Auburn.

We went to visit our friend Marc at his church about 30 minutes away. We got to hear his sermon and then went to the parsonage to visit with him and his family.

As of July 7, 2025, Auburn rolled out a pilot “X-crossing” at Toomer’s Corner (College Street and Magnolia Avenue), allowing pedestrians to cross diagonally while all vehicle traffic—cars, bikes, everything—is halted. This new setup eliminates right turns on red and introduces a pedestrian phase triggered by a crossing button, during which walk signals appear in every direction. Inspired by similar systems in cities like Nashville, the scramble aims to curb illegal crossings, reduce pedestrian wait times, and ease congestion—especially during game days or school rushes. City staff are currently on-site guiding folks through the change, and signage helps explain the new flow. Engineers will monitor its impact through the fall to determine if it becomes permanent.

I think it is great and hope it stays this way! They had the fire department out there one day that week make videos and tell people about it.

  1. Wow; what a fun filled week! It looks like Rob had a wonderful 50th. I love that crosswalk/ x crossing idea. I wish more cities did that! In Providence where Alec goes to school I am on constant alert as many crosswalks allow pedestrians to cross while cars also have green lights so you always have to watch for someone crossing even when you think it might be safe to drive (I think it’s crazy!).
