Every year for the last few years, Rob and I and Rob’s brother, Nick, have taken Rob’s sister’s kids out for a fun day. Well, 5 out of the 8 (the school age ones). We started doing this in place of giving them “things”. Even though we live in the same town, they are running here and there practicing and playing Lacrosse and just living life with a large family, so just don’t get to see them much.
We picked them up about 9:30am and headed to Atlanta. Since Atlanta is on Eastern time, we lose an hour when traveling there. By the time we got there, it was time eat lunch. We stopped at Antico Pizza West Midtown (the original). You usually can’t go wrong with pizza for kids. It was yummy!
Next stop was Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta. Their mom is a very successful graphic designer who owns her own company. Her kids are also quite creative. The ticket we got include access to all the exhibits, a puppet show, and a puppet workshop.
We started with 2 of the exhibits. Rob and I enjoyed the Jim Henson exhibit so much. It was like stepping back into part of our childhood seeing Sesame Street, The Muppets, and Fragile Rock puppets on display.
Worlds of Puppetry Collection was the 2nd exhibit we looked at. The kids were more interested in filling in the scavenger hunt form.
Our set time for the Puppet Show was 2pm, so having about an hour before to see the other 2 exhibits was plenty.
After the puppet show, we got to go make our own puppet.
Here we are with Rob’s brother, Nick and our puppets
The last thing we did before leaving was checking out the Special Exhibit, which was related to the current puppet show Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and honestly there wasn’t much to it.
After that we didn’t have much of a plan, we ended up going to a hotel to see a real life gingerbread house, only to find there wasn’t one and our car got wheel-locked. That was a $75 price tag for us being there like 10 minutes. I don’t think we’ll be back in Buckhead any time soon!
We tried to make the best of it and had to figure out our plan for the rest of the time in Atlanta. The kids had never been to the Big Chicken in Marietta, so we went there for dinner. We don’t eat at KFC hardly ever, so it a nice change.
From there we went to Lights of Life Christmas light display. Before driving through, we stopped and let the kids ride a couple rides at the little fair area.
And our last stop before heading home was at Menchies for frozen yogurt.
After that we made the 2ish hour drive back home, dropped them off, and headed home after a great day!
I can’t believe I never went to the Puppet Museum when we were in Atlanta so many times. Muppets…yea! That is so frustrating about the wheellock!
