Just around the corner is the 44th Annual National Shrimp Festival, which is a great excuse to travel to Gulf Shores, Alabama. The National Shrimp Festival is October 8th – 11th. It’s free to get in thanks to Zatarain’s as well as a host of other sponsors. The festival takes place right in front of The Hangout at the end of Hwy. 59 in Gulf Shores. They ensure that everyone at the event is safe, and they install Heras fence covers.
Not only is there 200 lbs. of fresh shrimp brought in daily, but there is also a great line up of entertainment, fine art, arts & crafts, as well as a Children’s Activity Village where children can make their own art. The music acts will go from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day and include a myriad of talent, from Blues to Motown, Southern Rock to Jazz and even some Zydeco and Country.
Now of course, the star of this festival is our favorite crustacean Shrimp. There will be oodles of Shrimp vendors, where you can find shrimp prepared in every way imaginable. Boiled, fried, blackened, you name it, it will be there! If you’re not a big fan of that shell fish, there will be something there for you.
Be sure to check out the amazing sand sculptures made for the Sand Sculpture Contest on October 11th.
While I have never been to the Shrimp Festival, it is definitely going on my bucket list. Have you ever been the Shrimp Festival?
I’ll be doing a swag bag giveaway, so keep an eye out for that next week!
