Here we are for Day 5 of the series of that I’m moving over from my old URL, while I’m recovering from shoulder surgery.
Today I’m sharing a cookbook that one of our family friends, Vicky, was using when we were visiting one time called Deep South Staples: or How to Survive in a Southern Kitchen Without a Can of Cream of Mushroom Soup. Vicky has a beautiful kitchen that has a wall of built-ins filled with multitudes of cookbooks of all kinds. I could sit in her kitchen for days just reading them all and eating Vicky’s amazing cooking. Oh, I digress…
After eating a recipe from this book at Vicky’s house, I knew I wanted it. I promptly went to Paperback Swap, where I added it to my wish list. When it became available, I could not wait to get it in the mail. Since it’s arrival, it has become a favorite.
I love the old pictures from the author’s childhood.
There’s some really useful tips in the margins as well.
This book is a must read cookbook because it’s just got some great good ole Southern recipes. I’ve made several recipes from this book, but I still have a long list of recipes to try. The on I think I want to make next is the Shortbread Cookies (pictured below).
