Can’t believe I haven’t done a Hodgepodge post since last April >>> Wednesday Hodgepodge 4.2.2024
1. Let’s compare this May to last May. What’s changed? What remains very much the same?
Oh wow! Let’s see last May I was playing catch up on the blog because I had had shoulder surgery in April. Monthly Digest from May
Now, I’m healed from that surgery, but still don’t have full range of motion/strength back yet, but close. It’s probably on me for not continuing to do my exercises. It’s a very difficult recovery.
Last May I didn’t have a granddaughter. We celebrated Memorial Day at the lake with friends as has been our tradition for years.
This is a picture from that weekend. Caitlyn and Drew (on right) would find out just a couple weeks after that they were pregnant!

Last May, Rob was not in a manager position in his job and now he is. So now he manages people alon with doing other IT duties.
What has remained the same is we are still in the same house, working in the same departments on campus, planning trips. However, now we have the great joy of being grandparents and loving that new role! I’m also not in as much pain in my left shoulder which is great!
2. What’s something you may do this month?
This month I’m trying to move everything off the back deck a little a time. We hope to redo the deck this year and clearing it off is the first step!
I’m also concentrating on exercising 5 days a week again.
3. Mother’s Day is approaching (in the US of A)…in what way(s) are you like your mother?
I look a lot like my mom especially as I age. She hasn’t really aged in years…so we often are mistaken for sisters. Here’s my mom, me, and my sister that is 13 years younger than me and her daughter during my visit in July 2023.

4. Did you have a favorite book as a child? What was it and why was it a favorite.
If I can only say ONE book, the first one that comes to mind that I loved was Banana Blitz by Florence Parry Heide.
5. Are you more of a tortoise or a hare? Explain.
This is a difficult one. It depends. Sometimes a tortoise and sometimes I’m a hare just depending on the situation. When making big decisions or making big purchases, I’m a tortoise; slow and very methodical, wanting to weigh all the options. I’m a hare when I’m walking typically. I like to get a move on! With projects a lot of times, I move fairly slowly because with fibromyalgia I have to be careful not to over do it. So like with the project of clearing off the deck, most people could knock that out in a day or less. However, for me that would probably put me in bed for a couple days.
6. Insert your own random thought here. Flashback to May 2015, which was TEN years ago when Caitlyn graduated from high school!

Here’s a pic from Caitlyn’s high school graduation photo. The couple on the left are married. Of course, Drew and Caitlyn are married with a baby now. The girl to right of Caitlyn is getting married in June (not to the guy she’s with there). What’s even cooler, is they are all still friends and in each other’s weddings.

Yes, shoulder surgery is a tough recovery. I crushed/shattered my left shoulder 16 years ago, losing some range of motion permanently. But the replacement is serving me well, and for that, I am very grateful. You are wise to respect your physical limits.
You have a beautiful family. I am visiting you from Joyce’s Hodgepodge.
Shoulders are a tough recovery and I hope you continue to feel better. My son-in-law is an orthopedic surgeon and shoulders/elbows are his specific area of expertise. How fun to have a granddaughter now! We added one in the last year too, so two grandgirls and three grandboys. It’s chaos but happy chaos : ) It’s nice to see you in the HP. Happy Mother’s Day to you!
That does sound like a tough recovery from your shoulder surgery. Aww! How lovely to have a granddaughter now and have Rob in a managerial position.
What a lovely photo of you, your mom and sister.
I didn’t realize that D and C went to high school together. I also find that I look more like my mom did as I age. Hope you have a good week!
Wishing you a speedy recovery, it’s good to hear that your pain has improved.
It sounds like a lot has changed since last May. How wonderful that a grandchild has joined your lovely family; they bring so much joy and happiness.
I am also a mix of tortoise and hare, but more so a tortoise these days, slow and steady.
I had never heard of that book before; I’m kind of surprised since between being an avid reader myself and teaching for several years I felt like I had nearly read them all. How neat that all those high school friends are still friends all these years later.
I’m sorry you are still struggling a little with range of motion in your shoulder. I feel the same way about my foot. Grrr. Hope you are soon back to 110%!!
Now that you are a grandmother and have that sweet baby girl to snuggle, can you imagine life without her?
Nice that your kids have remained friendly with the same kids for so many years.
I hope you continue to heal! I had wrist surgery years ago and it took so long to get my full range of motion back, but it did come back!
