½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts, toasted (optional)
1 (14-oz.) package caramels
⅓ cup half-and-half
Instructions
Stir together first 5 ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Add butter, stirring until mixture is crumbly. Reserve about 2½ cups of mixture. Press the remaining mixture into bottom of a lightly greased 13x9 inch pan. Sprinkle with chocolate morsels and pecans or walnuts (if you wish).
Microwave caramels with half-and-half in a microwave-safe bowl on medium (50% power) for 3 minutes. If caramels aren't melted completely, stir and cook for another minute. Let stand 1 minute. Pour evenly over chocolate morsels. Sprinkle evenly with reserved crumb mixture.
Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until light golden brown. If the top starts getting too brown, place a piece of foil lightly over pan.
Cool in pan on a wire rack. Cut into bars.
